Offering ballet technique, fitness and the opportunity to participate in modern and conditioning classes and select focus classes from the upper level youth division.
Ballet Technique
This class is for all levels and is modified to each individual's own capability. So welcome beginner, intermediate or advanced students who seek a more traditional ballet class as a means of exercise and expression!
Recommended Attire: Any dance attire (leotard & tights) or easy to move tight fitting clothing (t-shirt, sweats) and ballet slippers.
Fitness
A blend of Pilates and the New York City Ballet workout. To stretch, strengthen, tone, lengthen. The class will focus on warm-up to increase movement ability and circulation, stretching to loosen stiff muscles from the tension of the day, increase posture awareness and prevent strains, ab work to strengthen your center and provide entire body support, a floor barre to further develop the abs and strengthen the torso with support of the floor, center work using ballet movements (no dancing) to develop body awareness, symmetry and balance, and agility and composure, leg exercises to elongate muscles and give your legs that "dancer look", and a cool-down to take advantage of the warm muscles now at the height of flexibility.
"The body is our instrument. One thing to remember is that we all have the same instrument,
whether some of us have shaped it into the body of a dancer or not. We all want better health and longevity,
and we all believe that physical health leads to mental health. If you take care of your body your body will
take care of you. It sounds simple, but when you look better and feel better your outlook on life improves.
That's why I believe the workout is a success - because it's not only based on dance, it's grounded in good health."
- Peter Martins, Ballet Master in Chief, New York City Ballet
Recommended Attire: Any work-out or dance attire and tennis shoes, ballet slippers or bare feet.
